“I could not say enough great things about this gem in the mountains. The views were incredible, the grounds were beautiful and full of wildlife and the resort itself was so beautifully done. What puts this resort above most is the ranger you are assigned and all of the surprises and special touches along the way. I could not recommend this place enough. It is even more beautiful than the pictures show and you will be taken such good care of, you won't want to leave! We can not wait to go back!”

“The breathtaking views throughout the property make you feel like you’re immersed in jungle- there’s green all around and amazing views even from the bathroom! The rooms are immaculate, very large and comfortable, equipped with technology and luxury while remaining true to the authentic rustic feel of the resort. Every detail ties into that beautiful authenticity, from Nicaraguan artwork and handwoven textiles throughout the property to the farm to table cuisine.

The personnel was spectacular; the team of rangers, particularly Lewis, were so well trained, warm and attentive. It was the perfect balance of quality attention without intrusion. There was nothing they weren’t willing to accommodate if it was within their reach. The chefs took the time to explain their exquisite recipes and even offer cooking classes so we could learn to make their mouth-watering dishes ourselves. (I highly recommend the fish and the steak). Josselin was also extremely helpful in securing childcare so the adults could share a few meals without interruptions.

“Nekupe is transcendent. Really - my family will never forget this vacation. One reason for this is that it's almost impossible to put Nekupe in a simple descriptive box. Is it a luxe spa? Is it an ecolodge? Is it a ranch to horseback ride? A place to look for exotic animals? A place to look at mountains and volcanoes? A plantation? The answer is "yes!" - - Nekupe is anything and everything you want it to be.

Many things make Nekupe special. Start with the fact that you are provided with a dedicated "ranger" for your entire visit. Our ranger, Gaspar, was extraordinary. We learned so much about Nicaragua, the Nekupe property, the ecosystem, etc. He helped plan our days. He drove us everywhere in the provided ATV (except when we were given the wheel). Thank you, Gaspar!!

The resort itself is gorgeous. It is huge, so you will need the aforementioned ATV to get around. All rooms overlook a beautiful volcano and mountains. They are immaculately kept and comfortable. Housekeeping magically comes every single time you leave your room to freshen it up.

There are numerous activities to choose from. We loved horseback riding, which we did twice. The property also sports an animal refuge and we enjoyed learning about them. There's an aviary too, which you can walk through. You will inevitably drive through the plantations that grow passion fruits and avocados and so much more. One really special activity is shooting. My family and I had never touched a gun before, but we took a lesson from Emilio (a champion marksman from Nicaragua). It was a blast! There is also the main clubhouse which has a beautiful pool to relax by. Finally, there are numerous day trips you can take from the resort.

And then there's the food. The chef, Carlos Pena, uses ingredients - the majority of which come from the property - to create three exquisite means a day. We have enjoyed many fine restaurants in our time, but the meals at Nekupe stand with the finest we have had anywhere. Nekupe bills these bills as Michelin rated - They indeed are!!

Lastly, a big thank you goes to the Nekupe staff, who made our trip so special. Josseling from reservations who helped us plan and picked us up at the airport. Our waiter - who helped us enjoy the great meals created by the great Chef Pena. All the folks from the property who gave us tours of the plantations and animals. And to Gaspar - our Ranger - who tied it all together.
